What Size Enclosed Trailer Do You Need?

Shopping for an enclosed trailer but not sure what size you need? At Bighorn Trailers in Itasca, Texas, we carry a wide selection of enclosed cargo trailers, from smaller single-axle models to heavy-duty enclosed car haulers.

Understanding Enclosed Trailer Length

One thing a lot of customers don't realize is that the advertised length of an enclosed trailer measures the straight walls, not the V-nose.
For example, a 16FT V-nose enclosed trailer has 16 feet of straight-wall length, with additional space extending into the V-nose.
We offer a variety of enclosed trailer lengths, including 12FT, 14FT, 16FT, 20FT, 24FT, 28FT, and larger configurations.

7FT Wide vs. 8.5FT Wide Enclosed Trailers

7FT Wide Enclosed Trailers: Great for landscaping equipment, motorcycles, tools, and general cargo. These trailers are popular with contractors and customers who don't need a full-width car hauler. (fenders on the outside)

8.5FT Wide Enclosed Trailers: A popular option for hauling cars, side-by-sides, and larger equipment. Our heavy-duty models offer upgraded frames with tandem 5.2K or 7K axle configurations, depending on the trailer. (fenders on the inside)

Enclosed Trailer Height Options

We offer enclosed trailers with several interior height options:

  • 7FT Tall – A popular standard height for cargo and car haulers.

  • 7.5FT Tall – Additional clearance for taller equipment.

  • 8FT Tall – Great for larger vehicles, commercial equipment, and custom builds.

  • 9FT Tall – Available for specialty builds and customers needing maximum interior height.

Don't Forget About Ramp Door Clearance!

This is one of the most important measurements to check before buying an enclosed trailer.
Even if a trailer has a 7FT interior height, that doesn't mean the rear ramp opening is 7FT tall.
For example, on our typical 7FT-tall enclosed models:

  • 7FT Wide x 7FT Tall: Approximately 6FT 5IN rear ramp clearance.

  • 8.5FT Wide x 7FT Tall: Approximately 6FT 8IN rear ramp clearance.

The rear opening is shorter than the interior height due to the ramp door spring and trailer design.
If you're loading a side-by-side, golf cart, lifted vehicle, or taller equipment, always check the actual ramp opening before purchasing.
